In a nutshell

It has taken us a little while to get this blog going, but since we have to start somewhere, it might as well be the beginning.  Earlier this year Sara and I decided to begin trying to start a family.  We carefully planned our "window of opportunity" to best sync pregnancy with Sara's work schedule.  Guessing that we may not be successful on the first try, our window began in early September, and wouldn't you know it, we knocked out of the park on the first swing.  By mid September, we had a hunch that things were cooking.  On Sept. 22nd, our hunch was confirmed with a pregnancy test.

We were a little surprised that things had happened so quickly, but thrilled that we were blessed enough to avoid the heartache and frustration that so many face trying to procreate.  By the second week of October, cramping & morning sickness had set in full force both day & night.  Sara was fairly miserable for the weeks that followed.  At her first doctor's appointment on the 31st of October, we learned that regardless of her discomfort, our little bean was healthy and well.  At 9 weeks, we got our first glimpse via ultrasound of SternBaby.

I know the still shot doesn't look like much, but to see this little life squirm inside, and to hear that rapid little heartbeat was simply amazing.  November continued to be challenging, but the morning sickness began to tapper off.  With the start of December and her 2nd trimester, severe headaches set in.  Excedrin seemed to help a little, and slowly more good days than bad.

So, that sums it up in this nutshell of a blog post.  Here we are on Christmas Eve about to spend our final Christmas together as just a couple, excited for what's to come, but content to enjoy the peace (and quiet) until then.  Merry Christmas.
